Mr. Killa, from Grenada, has been the favourite all season long to win his first International Soca Monarch competition as his mega-hit, Power Soca tune, “Run With It” has been in heavy rotation on soca airwaves worldwide. Last night, on Fanatastic Friday, he saw his lifelong dream become a reality in front of a packed house in Queen’s Park Savannah, Trinidad.
An emotional Mr. Killa, born Hollice Mapp, thanked the Almighty Father in his acceptance speech, as well as his parents and all his fans in Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and all over the world for supporting his craft.
Trinidadian, Iwer George, placed 2nd with his song, “Blessings” and Mr. Legz (Hector Thomas), Mr. Killa’s compatriot placed 3rd singing, “Wining Challenge.”
In the Groovy Soca Monarch competition, Swappi captured the crown as he thrilled the crowd with his onstage performance of his hit song, “Party Start.” Tedsyson John of St. Lucia finished second singing, “Vent” and Grenadian, V’ghn, captured third prize singing, “Trouble In the Morning.”
