Edwin “De General” Yearwood is the most decorated male soca artist in Barbados, the charismatic lead singer of the band Krosfyah through the 1990s and 2000s. He won the Richard Stoute Teen Talent competition at 14, then in 1995 achieved an unbeaten feat: winning the Calypso Monarch, Party Monarch, and Tune of the Crop titles in a single Crop Over season. His hits “Pump Me Up,” “Sak Passe,” “Wet Me,” and “All Aboard” became anthems across the Caribbean, and in 2005 he signed a six-album deal with VP Records, the first soca act to do so. He won the World Soca Monarch title in 1998 and kept collecting Party Monarch and Road March crowns into the late 2000s. In 2025 New York City declared August 30 Edwin Yearwood Day in his honour.
