Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry spent some 25 years at Machel Montano's right hand in Xtatik as an instrumentalist and songwriter before launching his solo career in 2007. His breakthrough came with the groovy soca hit “Chippin'” in 2008, and he became known as a leading voice of groovy soca — the slower, sweeter side of the music built for chipping down the road. His biggest anthem, “Big People Party,” won Calypso of the Year honours in 2014 and placed highly in both the Groovy Soca Monarch and Road March races that season. He runs his own label, Country Life Music, and his albums include You Make Me… Surrender, Big People Party, and House of Soca. Farmer Nappy's importance is his patience: a long apprenticeship that produced one of the most dependable Carnival catalogues of the 2010s.
